We are accepting applications to establish a list to fill (3) vacancies in All Locations for the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office.

Appointee must be willing to accept an assignment at any Sheriff's Office location throughout Santa Barbara County.

The list established will be used to fill current and future vacancies for both Custody and Law Enforcement Operations at All Locations (separate lists for different locations will not be established). Therefore, applicants must check "All Locations" on the application agency wide question and /or supplemental question acknowledging this is required for the position.


Sheriff's Office Assignment

Custody Records- Under general supervision, working in the Main Jail facility, processes new arrestees for booking into custody; verify bail amounts at booking; assists the general public by phone and in-person; scheduling court dates; processes inmate records to facilitate release or transfer; and performs related duties as assigned. Duties are performed in a locked-down facility and require direct and indirect contact with inmates.

Sheriff's Criminal Records or Records- Under general supervision researches and processes criminal records; provides information to law enforcement personnel and the general public by phone and in-person; updates local, state, and federal computer databanks; serves as a technical resource to other Records staff; and performs related duties as assigned.

BACKGROUND DISQUALIFIERS:•An admission of having committed any act amounting to a felony within five years in California, or in another state which would be classified as a felony in California
•An adult felony conviction in California, or with a conviction for an offense in another state which would be classified as a felony in California
•Currently on Probation or Parole
•Adult felony and/or misdemeanor conviction(s) may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent
•Conviction of/or sustained petitions for any sex crime
•Recent use and/or possession of illegal drugs; Failure to reveal prior use will be disqualifying
•Unfavorable work history
•Poor credit history
•History of committing domestic violence
•Dishonesty or failure to reveal pertinent information

Adult Use of Marijuana Act (Proposition 64):
The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office standards adhere to both state and federal laws, the possession and/or sale of marijuana remains prohibited by federal law under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). Therefore, any candidate who uses / possesses and/or the sale of marijuana within the last year will result in disqualification.




EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Custody Records
•Initiates inmate records, enters arrest data, release information into computer, analyzes warrants and other court and legal documents to verify that they are complete and the booking information is in accordance with applicable regulations, laws, and procedures; updates inmate records when additional information is received.
•Reviews inmate records and court documents to establish release dates; revises release dates according to established guidelines; checks for supplemental booking or holds, orders from higher court, and warrants from other jurisdictions.
•Updates automated and manual inmate record and tracking systems (JMS); receives and send information from other agencies and jurisdictions.
•Identifies individuals with prior records or warrants by searching computer data banks.
•Receives and checks for accuracy court documentation on inmates, contacts court to correct errors or clarify information, records action by orders on inmate records.
•Schedules court dates fro new warrant arrests.
•Generate daily court transportation and release rosters.
•Enter subpoenas, orders to produce (OTP's), and various court orders into the Notes Module in Jail Management System (JMS).
•Reconciles cash drawer daily and enters transactions in JMS.
•Assists the general public, attorneys, and other law enforcement personnel at jail reception or on the phone requesting visitations, payment of bail, status of inmates, or other inmate information.
•Uses a keyboard to enter, access, retrieve, update, and change information from automated systems; operates office computer, mouse, and various printers.

Sheriff's Criminal Records or Records •Receives and examines different types of documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with legal requirements; corrects documents or contacts law enforcement personnel for corrections.
•Receives reports of stolen vehicles, missing persons, sex restraints, stolen or lost property, warrant stops, repossessions, and restraining orders; enters into AMRS, WANDA and CLETS systems.
•Enters and retrieves data from multiple county, state, and federal computer programs.
•Verifies and updates information in computer and in hard copy of records.
•Receives money for report and vehicle release fees; balances sales and receipts at end of day.
•Prepares and reviews court packets.
•Learns and maintains current knowledge of laws regarding type of records information that can be released and other cases, laws, and regulations that impact the Division's work.
•Distribute and disseminate Offense, Arrest and Incident reports.
•Prepare report packets and other related documents to the District Attorney, Juvenile Probation and Courts for prosecution.
•Enters documents into Sheriff's Department Records Management System, data entry into the State CLETS and Federal NCIC computer systems for missing persons, wanted persons, stolen property, vehicles, restraining orders and sex offenders.
•Provides assistance to the public via telephone and in person, analyze and evaluate documents requested by the public or outside agencies and prepare those documents for release.
•Enter both electronic and hard copy arrest warrants from daily court generated electronic list, Process printout of daily Warrant System activity and monthly reports of warrant purges.Confirm warrants for local, State and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies.

Qualifications EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

•Skill to check and compare information on documents to detect inconsistencies, incompleteness, and errors in transferring information

•Skill to develop sound professional relationships with public, internal customers, and co-workers

Special Requirements:
•Jail operations is 24/7 with a work schedule on rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
•Requires wearing a uniform (depending on the assignment)
Compensation $33,229.04 - $41,164.27 Annually (plus $6,149.26 annual cash allowance)
