Job Description The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is offering rewarding and challenging career opportunities to experienced law enforcement professionals who are interested in furthering their law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff III.

The Deputy Sheriff III classification is the experienced level in the Deputy Sheriff classification series. The Deputy Sheriff III performs assignments primarily oriented to patrol activities. Incumbents may also be assigned to perform specialized law enforcement activities that include detective, special investigation, administration, school resource, community relations, intelligence planning and research, internal affairs, warrant fugitive, civil, and/or court services.

Incentives include:
•Salary Increases - 2% salary increase effective 6/8/15; 2% salary increase effective 6/6/16.
•Salary Equity Adjustments - 1.8% salary increase effective 12/21/15; 1.8% salary increase effective 12/19/16.
•Salary details once all increases take effect: ◦$59,488 - $76,102 Annually
•Shift Premium - 4% shift premium for employees regularly assigned to work a graveyard shift.
•P.O.S.T Certificate Incentive - 2.5% for Intermediate Certificate; 5% for Advanced Certificate.

Note: The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur. Also, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING TO WORK OVERTIME IF NECESSARY AND SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.

As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a rigid medical, psychological, and polygraph examination, and a thorough background investigation (background materials for failed candidates are retained for three years). Background investigations include employment/credit histories, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.

Eligible candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications Education: Satisfactory completion of thirty (30) units from an accredited college or university that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system. Units obtained, if any, as a result of receiving a certificate of completion of a Basic Police Academy certified by the State of California, Department of Justice, the Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training, may be applied toward the thirty (30) units required.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time, paid professional law enforcement experience as a Deputy Sheriff II with the County of Fresno, with at least twelve (12) months of which must have been in the patrol bureau.

OR

Experience: Twenty-four (24) months of full-time, paid journey level, professional law enforcement experience within the last five (5) years. (Experience in a correctional facility is not qualifying.)

Certificate: Possession of a valid Basic Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Justice, the Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training.

Age: At least twenty-one (21) years of age.

License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license or equivalent. Possession of a valid Class "B" driver's license or equivalent may be required. Note: Your driver's license number must be listed on the application or it will not be accepted.

Other: Under California Penal Code Section 830.1, the Deputy Sheriff III classification is defined as a Peace Officer. Therefore, candidates must meet all pre employment as well as ongoing peace officer status requirements pursuant to federal, state and local legislation.
Compensation $4,870.67 - $6,227.00 Monthly
